Surge pick up first win in franchise history
The Space Coast Surge shut out the Seminole County Naturals 3-0 in the final game of a four-game series to earn the first win in the franchise’s history on Sunday afternoon.
Starting pitcher Jake Laber earned the win as he threw six scoreless innings. Nick Conway allowed one hit and struck out two in his 1 2/3 innings of relief to set-up Matt Jernstad as he threw 1 1/3 perfect innings to earn the save and complete the shutout for the Surge.
The top two spots in the line-up led the way for the Surge as center fielder Stantrel Smith and shortstop Jimmy Mojica each had two hits. Mojica raised his batting average to a team leading .333 on the season.
Nick Mahin, Bryan Frichter and Josh Horn each drove in a run for Space Coast.
Space Coast will continue their road trip as they will travel to Miami for a three-game series against the Miami Diamantes beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
