Surge Pound Diamantes in Series Opener

COCOA, FL - Jimmy Mojica went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI as the Space Coast Surge pounded out 16 hits, en route to a 12-2 victory over the Miami Diamantes in Miami on Tuesday night.

Mojica’s stellar night at the plate propelled his season batting average to .395, which is tops in the Florida Winter Baseball League.

Gerald Haran also had three RBI as he went 2-for-4 with a home run. Victor Ferrante had two hits, with one of them being a homer and drove in two runs.

Josh Horn went 3-for-5 with a run scored and Nick Mahan had two hits and scored a run.

Baron Short had a fantastic start on the hill for the Surge as he went eight innings and allowed just two runs on five hits, while striking out nine Miami hitters. Mike Koons threw a perfect inning of relief in the ninth and struck out two.

Space Coast will now look to build on their current two-game winning streak as they continue their three-game series against the Miami Diamantes in Miami on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
